Arboretum at Flagstaff

Details:

The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a delightful spot to spend an afternoon. Visitors can learn about the plants of the Colorado Plateau and other dry climate, high elevation locales. Winding paths lead through colorful gardens of trees and flowers with expansive views of the San Francisco Peaks.

The buildings were once the residence of Frances McAllister who first visited Flagstaff in the 1930s while passing through by train. McAllister later received a parcel of land and small cabin as a wedding gift from her husband and spent time here with her family during summers. After her husband's death, Frances moved to Flagstaff in 1967 and had a new home constructed on the site of the current Arboretum. An avid gardener, she found that gardening at high elevation presented some challenges so she transitioned to the use of native plants. Thus began the foundation of the Arboretum at Flagstaff.

Today, visitors can experience this lovely setting from May 1 through October 31 (closed in winter.) Admission to the Arboretum is $8.50 for adults, $6 for youth and children under 5 admitted free. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday.
