Highlights: The AHS Downtown Museum exhibits depict early Tucson businesses and homes,
including drugstores, police and fire departments, and the Romero barbershop.
Description: Current exhibit: John Dillinger.
Some of the things you will see. Transportation: a stagecoach, chuckwagon,
oxcarts, an impeccible 1923 Studebaker, buggies, and bicycles. Mining: beautiful Arizona
minerals, mining equipment (stamping machine), and a walk through a replica of a mine
including ore cars, dim lighting, and equipment (watch your head and footing!). Guns, guns,
guns and Santa Ana's uniform. Geronimo's weapons and a camera like the one C.S. Fly used to
photograph Geronimo. Silver: jaw-dropping silver chest with huge pieces of silver decorative arts.
Period rooms: beautiful furniture, rugs, pictures, and personal articles displayed as if someone
had just left the room. The importance of water exhibit: learn that who controls water, controls
all. Excavating history: step back in time as you view excavated artifacts; learn about the
Chinese in Arizona.
Upstairs are a general store and rooms depicting what life was like in 1870's Tucson from a
multicultural perspective. There are fun hands-on experiences for children involving music,
dress, and activities of daily living.
And don't miss seeing the original bar from the Bird Cage Theater in Tombstone!
