Arizona Powerhouse Route 66 Museum

Details:

Kingman's historic powerhouse was built between 1907 and 1911. It supplied electric power to Kingman and nearby mines beginning in 1909. In addition, it supplied power for the massive construction project at Hoover Dam until the hydroelectric plant was operable at the Dam in the late 1930s. The plant was shut down during the 30s and was renovated into the Kingman Visitor Center in the late 1990s.

Today, the building also functions as a museum with displays, dioramas, photos and maps. An hour long movie depicts the story of Route 66 in Arizona. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and children 12 and under are admitted free.
