Bill Williams Mountain

The town of Williams and Bill Williams Mountain are named after Old Bill Williams, a mountain man, guide and scout in the mid 1800s who traveled with the likes of Kit Carson and John C. Fremont. His namesake mountain provides recreational activities at almost any time of year but it's summit is particularly inviting during warmer months. At an elevation of over 9,000 feet, the peak is covered in tall pine forests and boasts beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

Hikers will enjoy the trail that begins near the Williams Ranger Station and climbs for about 3.5 miles to the top.  Those who prefer a scenic dive can negotiate the winding unpaved Forest Roads 173 and 111 with a moderately high clearance vehicle. Be sure to check in at the Ranger Station as the area has periodic closures during the summer fire seaon.
