Bill Williams Mountain Loop Road

Details:

Mountain man, Bill Williams, is the namesake for a number of landmarks in this area. The 30-mile Bill Williams Mountain Loop Road leads visitors from the town of Williams up and around the mountain that bears his name. This unpaved road (cinder covered) is passable by passenger cars in good weather. Along the way, there are good camping spots alongside open meadows. Farther up the road, visitors have open views of the surrounding area. Coleman Lake is located a short distance into the drive and is a great place for bird watching, particularly in Apri and May migrations. Hikers and mountain bikers will find trails in the vicinity including the Station Mountain 8-mile bike loop.

To access the road from the Williams Visitors Center on Railroad Avenue, go west on Railroad Avenue to Fourth Street. Left on Fourth which turns into Perkinsville Road/County Road 73 and continue six and a half miles to the loop road (Forest Road 108.) Turn right onto the Bill Williams Loop Road and travel 18.3 miles to its intersection with I-40. Turn right on I-40 and trave five miles back to Williams. The road is accessible spring through fall (or until winter weather conditions exist.)
