Castle Dome Mine Museum

Details:

Castle Dome Mine Museum is located on the site of a former bustling mining community of over 3,000 people. Today, what remains is a ghost town nestled in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge area just northeast of Yuma. Although it is easy to reach, Castle Dome is often overlooked by visitors who are unaware of its history. Mining began in earnest in 1869 and the mines continued to operate for approximately 20 years. Later the mines reopened to supply lead for WWI and WWII.  After the wars, demand once again decreased and the town fell into decline.

Today, Castle Dome has numerous restored or replicated buildings that portray what the town was like in its heyday. Exhibits contain antiques, mining equipment, newspaper clippings and other artifacts from the townsite. The ghost town and museum are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
