Curley School

Details:

Near Ajo's central Plaza is the historic Curley School. This Spanish Colonial Revival style main campus was constructed in 1919 and buildings were added in 1926 and 1937. Once Ajo's  fortunes fell with the price of copper, much of the town began to deteriorate. The International Sonoran Desert Alliance undertook the challenge of redeveloping the property and in 2007, turning it into 30 live/work style rentals for artists, workshop and classroom space and performing arts stages. The campus consists of eight buildings on seven acres of land. The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Special events are held throughout the year and can be found on the facility's website. Interested in learning more about the artist workspaces? Request a visit through the website.
