  • This unique family event honors Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in honor of those who have passed away.
  • The festival is a colorful gathering that features music, dancing and storytelling and concludes each day with La Procesion and the burning of troubles.
  • Festivities take place at the lovely setting of the Desert Botanical Gardens.

The Desert Botanical Garden is the backdrop for Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This two-day family friendly event features music, dancing and storytelling in celebration of this unique holiday. Day of the Dead is celebrated in the Southwest, Latin America and Mexico honoring departed loved ones in a festival-like setting. Visitors can enjoy the celebration and then browse through the Mercado (marketplace) filled with art, jewelry and other treasures. Choose colorful paper and create a flower to add to the community altar or stay unti lthe end of the day and take part in La Procesion, a march through the gardens that concludes with the traditional burning of troubles. 

Dia de los Muertos and La Procesion take place October 29, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. Admission is included with Desert Botanical Garden admission: Adults $22 (19-59), Seniors $20 (60+), Students with ID $12 (13-18) and Children $10 (3-12). Food, drinks and face painting are available for purchase.
