Roosevelt Lake

Roosevelt Lake is a reservoir formed by Theodore Roosevelt Dam on the Salt River and is the largest lake located entirely in the State. (Lakes Powell and Mead are larger but span more than one state.) President Roosevelt came to Arizona to dedicate the dam in 1911, providing water storage to the growing area of Phoenix. Today, the lake is a favorite water sport getaway just 80 miles northeast of Phoenix.

Roosevelt has approximately 128 miles of shoreline so there’s plenty of room for water fun! The area can be reached by way of the scenic Apache Trail, an adventure in itself. Portions of the road are unpaved but passable. Just keep your eye on the road since there are several hairpin turns. Camping facilities, boat launches, marinas and day use areas are all available. Fishermen come here for trophy bass, channel catfish and crappie. Others come to ski, jet ski, swim and just enjoy the cool waters.
