Sandys Canyon Trail

Sandys Canyon Trail is a great hike just outside of Flagstaff. The trail is easy enough for most hikers with a distance of 2.8 miles (out and back.) The trail begins along the rim of Walnut Canyon before dropping into Sandys Canyon. Along the way, hikers will enjoy views of the San Francisco Peaks as well as interesting geologic features. The trail is also open to horseback riders and mountain bikers. This trail intersects the Arizona Trail, which stretches the entire length of the state.
Sandys Canyon is best hiked from April through November and there are no fees involved. To reach the trailhead, drive 5.7 miles south on Lake Mary Road. Cross two cattle guards and then turn left into the Canyon Vista Campground. Go to the end of the campground and park in the day use area. There is a trailhead sign at the end of the parking lot. As with all hiking areas, be sure to go adequately prepared with water and food. Check weather and trail conditions.
